 Conservatories

The beauty of a conservatory is that it is a room which is part of your home and also part of your garden. On a summers day with the doors open the conservatory is simply an extension to the garden. On less clement days, it is a cosy and comfortable haven in which to enjoy the outdoors whilst the wind and rain are firmly excluded.

The aspect of a conservatory will affect its ambience. It may be a sunny breakfast spot, or be filled with the rich glow of the setting sun in the evening. Or it may have sunlight streaming through from sunrise to sunset. These factors may influence how and when you use your conservatory.

There are as many variations of conservatory design as there are pursuits you can follow in them. FTWWINDOWS can design and build a conservatory exactly to suit you –and your house. With high insulation throughout, it is likely to be used in mid-winter as in the height of summer. It is a room for all seasons, unlike conservatories of the past.

Complete structural Integrity of roof
The government test agency, the British Board of Agreement (BBA) stated ‘the conservatory roofs will have a life of at least 25 years.

When you sit in your conservatory, no one can imagine what the weather will impose on your roof. Over an average of 25 years, it would include:-

  • 15,300mm of rainfall,
  • 450 days with snow falling,
  • 57 days of hail the size of peas,
  • 9125 days with temperatures in the of -15°C in winter to +35°C in summer,
  • 300 visits by window cleaners, house painters and aerial riggers.

The roof system comprises structural aluminium profiles which have bolted joints rather than poorer quality screws which are often employed. Each structural aluminium profile is then capped and clad with PVC-u; these items are known as thermal claddings and the minimize the formation of condensation

Planning permission?
Planning Permission and Local Authority Building Regulation Approval is generally not required.

FTWwindows will check with the Local Authority to see if an application is necessary. This freeing of the market has meant that any inspection previously done by Councils is no longer necessary.

Security
When double glazed glass units are used in the roof, they are required to meet full safety glazing materials to BS6206. If polycarbonate glazing material is specified, this is strong and shatterproof. The polycarbonate or glass sheets cannot be removed from the roof without the use of a special tool to lift the ‘glazing security bead
